Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Corporate social responsibility is a broad term used to describe an organisation's effort to improve society inside and outside the office. Corporate social responsibility indicates that an organisation is committed to its people – its staff, their families, clients, communities, and any other people involved in the company; preserving the environment and its impact on that economy.

BexGroup has always been aware of contributing to the community but has, until now, not had a dedicated department to run it. It was decided to address this in 2021, and a corporate social responsibility department was established at BexGroup.

What makes BexGroup different from many other companies with these types of divisions is that we do not have this division due to regulatory reasons. We choose to pay attention to this because we believe it is important.

The happiness of the staff, the prosperity that a company adds, and the impact on the environment are equally valuable. With this in mind, BexGroup has set up its corporate social responsibility department.

We provided 110 school uniforms to our employees’ children where we emphasized the importance of education through our 'Is jou kind op die bus?' program.

Our relationship with Heartlands Baby Sanctuary began in 2016, and over the last seven years we’ve helped them build a kitchen, upgraded their facilities, and donated clothes, toys and essential baby items.

Stellenbosch Trail Fund (STF) is on our doorstep, and our employees often find themselves enjoying the hiking, biking and running trails that the STF work hard to maintain and develop.

Maria’s Community Kitchen is a project that one of our employees started in her community of Kuils River in 2022 and is now a registered NPO.

Maria’s Community Kitchen cooks hearty meals for her community, aiming to feed as many children as possible.

Bester Feed & Grain Zambia initiated an incredible project to provide a small rural community close to them with access to water by digging a borehole.

Agriculture is close to our hearts and the well-being of our farmers and farmer workers is vital, and that is why we support the Prieska Mediese Sentrum.

We support various NPOs and over the years we have made sure Christmas is a special time, especially for those underprivileged and vulnerable children, so we asked them for their Christmas wish lists so that we could make a few of their wishes come true.

Sustainability

In 2023 our greenhouse gas emissions targets were officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By meeting the SBTi’s criteria, we have sharpened our focus and responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint across our business. This approval not only reinforces our dedication to sustainable practices, but also sets a clear path forward in our journey towards a more sustainable future.
